Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin School Attendances.

Risteárd Ua Maolchatha

asked the Minister for Education if he will state in respect of each separate class in each of the following Dublin schools: (1) Central Model (Boys'), (2) Central Model (Infants'), (3) Central Model (Girls'), (4) Scoil Muire, (5) Gardiner Street Convent, (6) North William Street Convent (Girls'), (7) North William Street Convent (Boys'), (8) Lower Rutland Street (Senior Girls'), (9) Lower Rutland Street (Infant Girls'), (10) Lower Rutland Street (Infant Boys'), (11) Lower Rutland Street (Senior Boys'), (12) St. Patrick's (No. 1) Drumcondra, (13) St. Patrick's (No. 2) Drumcondra, (14) Scoil Gaedhealach Ullmhúcháin, (a) the number of children on the roll of each class, and (b) the number of children in attendance at each class, on the last Thursday in each of the months August and September, 1942.

I am furnishing the Deputy in writing with the information he requests in respect of the schools in question for Thursday, 24th September, 1942. These schools were not in operation on Thursday, 27th August, 1942, owing to summer vacation.

General Mulcahy

Will the Minister say if the answer will be included in the Official Report?

Mr. Derrig

I think that, owing to the shortage of paper and the cost of printing, unless the matter is of great moment——

General Mulcahy

I ask the Minister to have it included in the Official Report. It deals with a very important matter—the overcrowding of the primary schools in the city—in which more Deputies than the Deputy who put down the question are interested.

Mr. Derrig

Perhaps the Deputy is anticipating the nature of the answer when he says it deals with overcrowding.

General Mulcahy

No; I suggest that I am not. It is a question based on the same lines as a question put down earlier in the year, and it is put down for comparison purposes. I am aware of the circumstances, but I think the information is of general interest, and I ask that it be included in the Official Report. I assume I am entitled to have it included in the Official Report.

Deputies are so entitled. If, however, the Deputy, on seeing the reply, would agree to have a copy placed in the Library, as being too voluminous to print at present he might so inform the Chair; but Deputies are entitled to have replies to Parliamentary Questions printed in the Official Report.
