Vol. 88 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Application for Paraffin.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he has received any application from Messrs. P. Somers and Son, General Smiths and Farriers, Lucan, County Dublin, for supplies of paraffin for lighting purposes to enable them to carry on their business as blacksmiths, and, further, if he is aware that this firm is working day and night to cope with the demands made on them by farmers on account of increased tillage; and if he will accede to this application.

The firm in question have applied on a number of occasions for an allowance of paraffin oil for the lighting of their premises and have based their application on the grounds set out by the Deputy. I have examined fully the general question of paraffin requirements for such purposes but regret that, owing to the stringency of the supply position, special allowances cannot be provided. The Deputy will appreciate that it is not possible to make an exception in any individual case.
