Vol. 88 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fuel Supplies in Dun Laoghaire.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is aware that a big number of the poor people in the Dun Laoghaire area are unable to obtain supplies of fuel, and if he is prepared to sell to Glasthule Parish Council supplies of timber which are at present stored at Salthill, Dun Laoghaire, with a view to relieving the present position of the poor and working-class people in this area.

The timber referred to is intended to be held in reserve as an iron ration to meet an extreme fuel crisis and cannot be released for current consumption at present. With a view, however, to meeting the fuel difficulties of the poorer classes in the urban areas throughout the non-turf area a State-aided scheme has been introduced for the supply of turf and firewood to such persons from depots maintained by the urban authorities.
