Vol. 88 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wool Prices.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, in view of the unremunerative prices paid to producers for this season's wool-clip, he can explain the present substantially increased price of wools; and if he is satisfied that producers have not been unfairly treated.

My information is that the prices paid to farmers for wool of the 1942 clip were, on the whole, satisfactory. All classes of wools, except the coarser types such as blackface, which are not in demand in this country, realised higher prices than in the 1941 season. In the circumstances, the second part of the question does not arise.

Is the Minister not aware that prices of wool have increased very substantially during the past month?

In some cases, yes.
