Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Civil Servants and Motor Permits.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he will state the number of civil servants, if any, and the Departments in which they serve, who have been given permits to use motor cars; what allowance of petrol has been given for each car; whether the cars are insured and taxed; and by whom.

The number of civil servants who have been given permits to use motor cars, the Departments in which they serve, and the quantity of petrol allowed at present are as follows:—

In general no standard petrol allowance is given in respect of an individual officer. Bulk allowances are allocated to each Department and are distributed by them to the officers concerned in accordance with the areas to be covered and the nature of the duties to be performed. So far as I am aware, responsibility for insurance and taxation of all the cars concerned rests with the registered owners.
