Vol. 88 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transport Advisory Committee.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether it is proposed to set up the Transport Advisory Committee recommended by the Commission on Transport; and, if so, when the names of its members will be announced.

It is presumed that the question refers to the National Transport Council, which the recent Tribunal of Inquiry on public transport recommended should be set up. In present circumstances, and having regard to the functions which the council was intended to fulfil, its establishment would serve no useful purpose.

Is the Minister so satisfied with the existing system of transport in the country that he does not want advice from anybody?

The Deputy has referred to a recommendation in the Report of the Transport Tribunal which, quite obviously, he has not read. If he had read it, he would not have asked so foolish a question.

Is the Minister satisfied with the way things are going?

That is not the question the Deputy asked.

That is the meaning of it.

If the Deputy had read the report he would see the meaning of my reply.
