Vol. 88 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Generation of Additional Electricity.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has received a report from an eminent County Dublin engineer with reference to the utilisation of tidal power for generating electricity; and, if so, whether the report has been examined; and if it is the intention of his Department to act on the report.

A document containing proposals regarding the utilisation of tidal power in the generation of electricity has been submitted to my Department and was referred by me to the Electricity Supply Board to consider and advise on those proposals in order that a decision might be taken as to whether the project should be included in plans for post-war development. The Electricity Supply Board has advised that the capital cost of a scheme of this kind would be so great as to compare most unfavourably with any other known method of producing electricity in this country.
