Vol. 88 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - New Children's Hospital at Crumlin.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state whether any progress has been made in the preparations for the new children's hospital at Crumlin, Dublin; and whether moneys are being reserved for the building of the hospital.

The answer to the Deputy's question under both heads is "Yes". I should point out, however, that while my Department has earmarked a considerable sum for the erection and equipment of the proposed hospital in accordance with approved plans and has co-operated in every way possible in furthering the project, the undertaking was initiated as a voluntary hospital by a public-spirited committee under whose auspices it is being carried out.

In case the Deputy's question might be taken to suggest either that the committee concerned has not made the utmost progress possible under the difficult circumstances of the times or that my Department has not been in every way helpful I must make it clear that there is no foundation for any such suggestion.
