Vol. 88 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water Supply for Kildare Holding.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what steps have been taken since his statement in the Dáil, in October, 1941, to erect a pump for Mr. James Christian, Clonaughlis, Straffan, County Kildare, who was allotted a holding on the Kennedy estate at Bishopscourt, Straffan, in exchange for a holding elsewhere; and when it is likely that the pump, or an alternative holding, will be provided for Mr. Christian.

As the Land Commission were unsuccessful in their efforts to find water on the parcel of land allotted to Mr. James Christian, they have investigated the possibility of providing him with access to existing water supplies convenient to his allotment. On an adjoining allotment there is a disused quarry which holds surface water for the greater part of the year and it has been decided to provide Mr. Christian with a means of access to this quarry.

There is also a board of health pump within about a furlong of Mr. Christian's allotment and the Land Commission are endeavouring to procure for him the use of a right of way of the board of health giving access to this pump. The matter has not yet been settled, but it is hoped that it may be decided at an early date.
