Vol. 101 No. 19

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Labourers' Cottages (Co. Dublin).

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state when the report on the recent inquiry, regarding the erection of labourers' cottages in County Dublin, will be issued; if he will authorise the county commissioner to proceed with the work immediately; if he is aware that the Dublin County Council own a number of sites, suitable for cottages, in the county, and are not erecting cottages on those sites, although most other local authorities are proceeding with works of this nature; and if he will make a statement on the general position in this matter.

I expect to be in a position to convey my decision on the County Dublin County Council Compulsory Purchase (Labourers Acts) Order, 1945, to the Dublin County Commissioner within the next fortnight. I am aware that the Dublin County Council is in possession of some 36 acres of land in the county acquired for the erection of labourers' cottages. The utilisation of these lands to the best advantage is conditional on the acquisition of certain adjoining sites which are included in the Compulsory Purchase Order referred to. The council have a scheme of eight labourers' cottages in progress at Bohernabreena, which is nearing completion.
