Vol. 88 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Parish Council's Application.

asked the Minister for Lands if he has received an application from Swords Parish Council to purchase about 300 trees on the McCarthy estate, Lissenhall, Swords, County Dublin, and whether as this parish council give their services voluntarily to provide fuel for the people of Swords at a reasonable cost, he will see his way to have their application granted.

An application has been received from Swords Parish Council to purchase for fuel purposes trees beside Baker's Lane on the lands of Lissenhall on the McCarthy estate, County Dublin, Record No. S.8149. The prohibitive provisions of Rule 2 of Emergency Powers (No. 169) Order, 1942, apply to these trees and the Land Commission are unable to consider the application made by the council, as the trees stand not more than 30 feet from the centre of the road.

Is the Minister aware that several hundred trees are a couple of hundred yards in from the road on this estate and that officials of his Department have already marked trees there; and can he assure me that these trees have not been sold by the Forestry Department to some other people in preference to the parish council?

The position has been explained, and if the facts are not as represented to me in the Department the matter can be re-examined. I think the Deputy will find that the facts are as stated.
