asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether any approach was made to his Department by the British postal authorities with a view to making the British Airgraph Service available for the transmission of messages originating in this country; and, if so, what was his reply; and, further, whether he will now consider making whatever arrangements are necessary to enable the airgraph service to be used by posters in this country.
Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Use of Airgraph Service.
The question of the utilisation of the airgraph service for postal communications from Éire is at present under discussion with the British postal authorities. I hope that it may be practicable to arrive at a decision before long.
Could the Minister tell us what "before long" means? He knows that people who have relatives abroad have been waiting three years for this.
I am afraid I cannot.
Are the difficulties on this side or the other side?
The negotiations are proceeding and are expected to be pretty short now.
