Vol. 88 No. 13

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Marriage Allowance for Coast-Watching Service.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state why married members of the Coast-Watching Service do not receive marriage or children's allowances; and if he will see that they are paid those allowances.

Members of the Marine Service engaged on coast-watching duties are paid a special daily allowance, in addition to ordinary pay, in lieu of rations, fuel and accommodation. These personnel live in their own homes and the special allowance was calculated so as to ensure that the members of the Coast-Watching Section of the Marine Service would not receive remuneration in excess of that issuable in similar circumstances to members of the Defence Forces engaged in other corps and services.
