Vol. 89 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Military Service Pensions.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state (a) the names of all persons in County Mayo who have been awarded pensions under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934; and (b) the amount of the pension in each case.

A statement showing the particulars required is being prepared and will be forwarded to the Deputy as soon as possible.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware (a) that the application of Mr. William P. Flatley, Lassigney, Ballyhaunis, County Mayo, for a military service pension has been disallowed by his Department; (b) that the said William P. Flatley took an active part in several ambushes and was interned for his activities, and (c) if he will state the reasons why the application was disallowed.

An application by Mr. William P. Flatley, Lassiney, Ballyhaunis, County Mayo, for a Service Certificate under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934, was referred to the Referee who reported to me that on the evidence before him Mr. Flatley was not a person to whom the Act is applicable. This decision was communicated to Mr. Flatley on the 19th ultimo.

I am not aware of the nature of the services rendered by Mr. Flatley but I understand that before reporting to me the Referee considered the evidence obtained from Mr. Flatley and from officers nominated by the committee of his former brigade. The Referee did not consider that Mr. Flatley's military service as established by the evidence was such as to be deemed qualifying service under the Act.
