Vol. 89 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of Navan Holding.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether the Land Commission allowed Mrs. White, Caddagh House, Castletown, Navan, to sell by private treaty her Land Commission holding to a childless person who recently had sold a large estate; and, if so, if he will give reasons; and if he is aware that many suitable applicants from the parish were prepared to purchase this holding and even offered a higher price.

Mrs. White, as the widow of a former steward on the Johnson Gerrard estate at Clongill, was allowed to sell the holding which was allotted to her husband in consideration of the loss of his employment on the acquisition of the estate by the Land Commission. The approval by the Land Commission of the proposed purchaser was sought and obtained prior to the sale. The Land Commission were only concerned with purchasers put forward by the vendor.
