Vol. 89 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Post Office Factory.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether, with a view to providing employment for those who were disemployed he proposes to rebuild the portion of the Post Office factory in Dublin which was destroyed by fire recently.

It is intended to reestablish the Post Office factory, and steps towards that end are being proceeded with as expeditiously as circumstances admit. I may add that the destruction of the factory has not, so far, resulted in any disemployment of male workers, and that less than half of the regular female workers have been paid off.

Would the Minister hold out any hope as to when those paid off will be likely to be re-absorbed?

Some of them are employed on special work. Of course, I do not think I could give any definite undertaking as to when the others will be taken on but we are proceeding as fast as possible to get on with whatever sections of the work it is possible to deal with, especially with reference to the repair of telephones.
