Vol. 89 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Military Service Pension.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he will state if Mr. Thomas Moore, Joanstown, Carrick-on-Suir, County Waterford, was informed that his claim for a pension under the Military Service Pensions Act has been turned down; and, if so, whether he will state the grounds on which this application was refused; further, whether he will state if Mr. Moore was orally examined in regard to his claim six years ago; and, if so, whether he will state the circumstances in which it required a period of six years to reach a decision in this case.

Mr. Thomas Moore, Joanstown, Carrick-on-Suir, was notified on the 4th May, 1942, that his application under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934, was refused because the referee and reported to me that Mr. Moore was not a person to whom the Act applies. I am aware that Mr. Moore was orally examined in regard to his claim in 1936. The delay in reaching a decision was mainly due to the difficulty in obtaining reliable records and evidence relating to the area in which Mr. Moore served.
