Vol. 89 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Heating of Schools.

Mr. Byrne

asked the Minister for Education if he will state whether his recommendation for an increased grant towards the cost of heating of schools has been successful, and if sufficient supplies of fuel for the heating of schools will be now made available.

Representations made to me with regard to an increase in the grant towards the cost of the heating of schools are receiving consideration, and I expect to be in a position to announce a decision at an early date.

With regard to the second part of the Deputy's question, supplies of fuel for the heating of schools are not, as far as I am aware, inadequate generally.

Mr. Byrne

Is the Minister aware that three months ago I got the same reply — that the matter was under consideration — and that since then thousands of Dublin children have gone into cold and draughty schools simply because the Minister would not make up his mind to give an increased grant to provide the fuel?
