Vol. 89 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Payment for Turf Banks.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that payment has not yet been made for turf banks in the townlands of Drumsru and Lullymore, County Kildare, acquired by the Curragh Command, and from which the Army cut considerable quantities of turf last season; and if he will have the matter expedited so that the people concerned will receive payment at an early date.

The delay in effecting payment in respect of turf cut by military personnel at Lullymore and Drumsru has been due to difficulties which were encountered in the establishment of title to the turf banks in these areas. These difficulties have not yet been fully overcome, but payments in respect of turbary acquired at Lullymore are now being made. The position regarding the ownership of turf banks at Drumsru is still under examination and it is hoped to have a decision reached at an early date.
