Vol. 89 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Waterford Gárdaí—Rent Allowance.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware of the high rents that are being paid for houses in Waterford by married members of the Gárdaí; and whether, in view of this, he will raise the rent allowance to members of the force to the same level as the rates obtaining in the three other county boroughs.

Mr. Boland

The rent allowances fixed by the Gárda Síochána Allowances Order, 1940, were based on a census of the rents paid by married members of the Gárda throughout Eire. The maximum rate of rent allowance applicable to Waterford was determined by the rents actually being paid at that centre and I cannot see my way to reopen the matter now
