Written Answers. - County Cavan Care Facilities.

151 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Health the community care facilities to be provided in each town in County Cavan; the date on which works will commence; the projected date of completion and commission; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15199/96]

Limerick East): As the Deputy will be aware the provision of community care facilities in County Cavan is a matter for the North-Eastern Health Board in the first instance.

The board has outlined the following development plans for County Cavan:

Virginia

A new health centre to be built in conjunction with a unit for the elderly. The centre will include the following services: public health nursing, public health medical, ophthalmology, dental, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, environmental health, child care and family support, outreach consultant services and general practitioner services.
The design team has been appointed and sketch plans have been prepared. The commencement date for this project will depend on the availability of capital funding.
Ballyconnell
A new health centre is planned in conjunction with a unit for the elderly. The centre will include the following services: public health nursing, public health medical, ophthalmology, dental, occupational theraphy, speech and language theraphy, environment health, community welfare, child care services, outreach consultant services and general practitioner services.
The design team has been appointed and sketch plans have been prepared. The commencement date for this project will depend on the availability of capital funding.
Cootehill
A new health centre and day care centre for the elderly is planned. The centre will include the following services: public health nursing, public health medical, ophthalmology, dental, speech and language therapy, psychology, environment health, social work, mental handicap, outreach consultant services and general practitioner services.
The design team is at the design stage. The commencement date for this project will depend on planning permission approval and available capital funding.
Ballinagh
An extension to the health centre premises is proposed. The services which will be provided include general practitioner, public health medical, public health nursing, community welfare and social work. This project is at the planning stage.
Belturbet
A refurbishment of the health centre will be completed in 1996.
Swanlibar
The health centre will be extended and refurbished to enhance general practitioner accommodation by the end of 1996.
A recent purchased building will provide a day care centre for the elderly. The building will be refurbished and furnished by the end of 1996.
Tullyvin
A refurbishment of the health centre will be completed in 1996.
Mountainlodge
A refurbishment of the health centre will be completed in 1996.
Termon
A refurbishment of the health centre will be completed in 1996.
Killeshandra
It is proposed to extend the health centre in order to provide enhanced general practitioner accommodation. This project will commence subject to planning permission and available funding.
Kilcogy
Discussions are currently taking place regarding the purchase of land in connection with refurbishment proposals.
Mountnugent
Discussions are currently taking place regarding the purchase of land in connection with refurbishment proposals.
Stradone
Discussions are currently taking place regarding the purchase of land in connection with refurbishment proposals.
Kingscourt
Upgrading of the dental facilities will be completed in 1996.
Ballyjamesduff
Upgrading of the dental facilities will be completed in 1996.
Cavan
Discussions are taking place between the board and Cerebral Palsy Ireland concerning a joint project on a site in Cavan general hospital.
I am satisfied that the North Eastern Health Board's capital development plan, when implemented, will ensure that County Cavan will have a comprehensive network of community care facilities, which will adequately service the health centre needs of the county.
