Vol. 89 No. 12

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - External Trade Statistics.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will arrange to make public the figures as to imports into and exports from this country for the last four months of the year 1939 and for each month of the year 1940; and, if not, why not.

For each month from and including September, 1939, a summary of the values of the imports and exports of this country has been regularly published under the descriptions (a) live animals; (b) food, drink and tobacco; (c) other raw materials and manufactured goods; (d) parcel post. For reasons of public policy it has been decided not to publish, for the present, more details than are given in this summary.

Would the Minister say what aspect of public policy is safeguarded by the refusal to give detailed information in regard to the 1939-40 position?

It would not be in the public interest to say.

Or the Minister's interest—which?
