Supplementary Estimate, 1943-44. - School Attendance Bill, 1942—Message from the President.

The following Message has been received from the President:—

Deinim-se, Dubhglas de h-Ide, Uachtarán na h-Éireann, do chur in iúl duit leis seo gurb í breith na Cúirte Uachtaraighe go bhfuil Alt 4 de'n Bhille dár teideal Bille Freastal Scoile, 1942 i n-aghaidh an Bhunreachta.

Dá bhrigh sin, do réir fo-ailt 1º d'Alt 3 d'Airteagal 26 de'n Bhunreacht, dhiúltuigheas indiu dom lámh do chur leis an mBille sin.

Ar na thabhairt fám' láimh agus fám' Shéala an 15adh lá so d'Abrán, 1943.

I, Douglas Hyde, President of Ireland, do hereby inform you that the Supreme Court has decided that Section 4 of the Bill entitled School Attendance Bill, 1942, is repugnant to the Constitution.

In pursuance therefore of subsection 1º of Section 3 of Article 26 of the Constitution I have this day declined to sign the said Bill.

Given under my hand and Seal this 15th day of April, 1943.

The Minister cannot say that we did not advise him vigorously and strongly that that was so.
