Vol. 89 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Teacher's Pension.

asked the Minister for Education if he will review the retired teacher's pension granted to Miss Honoria Sweeney, Tallagh, Ballycroy, County Mayo, who, having been work mistress from 1894 to 1906, was in that year appointed junior assistant mistress, a position which she held until 1939, when, having reached the age limit, she was obliged to retire and accept a pension of £38 15s. 0d. per annum; and whether, in view of the special circumstances of the case and the present high cost of living, the Minister will consider granting an increase in this pension.

I regret that I am not in a position to review the pension granted to this teacher. The service given by her as work mistress was part-time service only and is not reckonable for pension.
