Vol. 91 No. 10

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Corporation Employees.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that the concession granted from 1st June, 1942, to 1st January, 1943, in respect of the cost-of-living bonus to certain of the lower-paid grades of the Civil Service was not granted to similar grades in the Dublin Corporation service although those grades have always been subject to the same conditions of bonus as the Civil Service; and if he will take the necessaly steps to have this concession granted to corporation employees in respect of the period from 1st June, 1942, to 1st January 1943.

As the Deputy is no doubt aware, the cost-of-living bonus in the case of corporation staff is governed by, the Local Authorities (Cost of Living) Act, 1940, so that in June, 1942, the same conditions as to the cost-of-living bonus in the Civil Service did not apply to grades in the Dublin Corporation service. The special emergency bonus as distinct from cost-of-living bonus which was granted to certain officers and employees of local authorities did not take effect in any instance before January, 1943, and accordingly, the reply to the latter part of the question is in the negative.
