Vol. 91 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Food Vouchers for Blind Persons.

Mr. Byrne

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will investigate the cause of the delay in the issue of extra food vouchers by the Corporation of Dublin to blind persons now in receipt of small allowances inadequate to meet their requirements; and if he will see that the vouchers are issued without further delay.

On the 21st ultimo my Department was informed by the City Manager that the corporation had decided to proceed with a food voucher scheme for blind persons. The City Manager has been informed that the arrangements contemplated are not likely to ensure that food will be purchased to the value of the voucher, but if the corporation are satisfied that abuse will not arise the arrangements may be proceeded with. The matter is now one for the corporation.

Mr. Byrne

Then the Minister will not interfere any more with the distribution of the vouchers to the detriment of the blind persons?

The Deputy may be well assured that the Minister will discharge his responsibility.
