Vol. 92 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Radio Eireann Lunch-time Programme.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether the details of the lunch-time concert from Radio Eireann are given out in advance for publication, and, if so, what papers receive this information, and whether he is aware that it is desirable that the public should know in advance what items are about to be broadcast.

Details of the lunch-time programme are not issued in advance for publication as there is no likelihood that the newspapers would publish them, having regard to the pressure on their space. The evening programme, details of which are issued in advance, are published by the newspapers only in very abbreviated form. Questions of this kind will be best dealt with if addressed, at least in the first instance, to the Director of Broadcasting.

Mr. Dockrell

Does the Minister not think it is desirable that the public should be able to know in advance what the programmes are? If the papers will not publish them, of course, that is another matter.

That is the matter.

Mr. Dockrell

I think the broadcasting authorities ought to issue a programme.
