Vol. 92 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Service for Cornamona (Galway).

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he is aware that considerable hardship is inflicted on the residents of the Cornamona district, County Galway, particularly in connection with sick calls, by their having no telephonic communication with other districts; and whether he is prepared to have the district linked with the telephone service.

I am aware that there are no telephone facilities at Cornamona. In order to provide service it would be necessary to erect a circuit of double wire to Maam exchange, a distance of almost six miles. This work could not be undertaken at present in view of the serious shortage of line construction stores due to emergency conditions. The requirements of Cornamona, and the Deputy's representations, will however be borne in mind when conditions admit.
