Vol. 92 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Appointment of Additional Justices.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he will appoint additional district justices to deal with accumulated arrears of work in the Dublin City district courts so as to prevent the untimely delays at present occurring in the taking of depositions in criminal cases.

I am not aware that there are any abnormal delays or arrears in the business of the Dublin Metropolitan District Court.

The senior justice is in close touch with the Department as to the state of the work and every request made by him for assistance has been complied with.

There is no reason to believe that the number of justices at present assigned to the district is inadequate: it is hoped, in fact, that it may be possible shortly to effect some reduction in that number.
