Vol. 92 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Commission Receivable Orders.

asked the Minister for Lands why the Irish Land Commission retains permanently the receivable orders of the farmers in the townlands of Coolacoon, Shrahreevagh, Tully, Shranacloy, Loughta, Ballykip, etc., in the Louisburgh district and then institutes legal proceedings for the payment of annuities together with costs; and if he is aware that the banks will not accept annuities unless accompanied by receivable order.

The receivable orders referred to have not been retained permanently by the Land Commission. They were returned to payers as soon as possible after the amounts lodged with them were brought to credit of the accounts.

No proceedings are taken against defaulters without either previous notices in writing or by issue of six-day notices on which payment of the amount set out thereon can be paid through any bank within the times limited for lodgment.

Annuitants in arrear with their instalments are sent six-day notices in June and July in respect of the May-June gales and in December and January in respect of the November-December gales.
