Vol. 92 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Potato Distribution.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is prepared to secure the inclusion of representatives of the consumers on the committee nominated by the Dublin wholesale potato, trade for the purpose of consultations with regard to the transport and distribution of potatoes in the Dublin area.

I do not consider it necessary to nominate special representatives of consumers on the committee set up by the Dublin wholesale potato trade. The reserve stocks of potatoes were accumulated in the interests of consumers and my Department will take steps to ensure that any supplies which may be drawn from the reserve will be distributed equitably in Dublin or elsewhere as required.

Will the Minister say whether he is prepared to secure that retailers will be represented on the board?

Will the Minister say why he will not have a representative of the retailers on the board in view of the fact that very many retailers buy direct?

The wholesalers are merely an advisory committee.
