Vol. 92 No. 17

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Radio Advisory Council.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state the terms of reference which he has given to the Radio Advisory Council; also, if he will state to what extent the Director of Broadcasting is to be guided by the opinion of the Radio Advisory Council.

The Broadcasting Advisory Committee is a statutory committee established by the Minister under the Wireless Telegraphy Act, 1926. Its functions are contained in Section 19 of the Act, namely, "to advise and assist him in the conduct of the broadcasting stations maintained by him and the selection and control of the broadcast matter distributed from such broadcasting stations." The extent to which the advice tendered by the committee may be given effect to is a matter for the Minister's discretion.
