Vol. 92 No. 17

Vocational Education (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill, 1943—From the Seanad.

The Dáil went into Committee to consider amendments from the Seanad.

I move that the Committee agree with the Seanad in amendment No. 1:—

Section 5. In page 3, sub-section (1) (a), line 20, and in sub-section (1) (b) at the end of line 30 immediately after the word "vocational" the word "education" inserted in each place.

This is merely the correction of a printer's error.

Amendment agreed to.

I move that the Committee agree with the Seanad in amendment No. 2:—

Section 7. In sub-section (1), at the end of the sub-section the following words added:—"and such inquiry shall be held as soon as conveniently may be after the date of the suspension".

This amendment is inserted to provide that the inquiry, which the Bill sets out as being necessary in the case of suspension, shall be held as soon as possible after the suspension of an officer is made.

It says: "conveniently". Could we get a definition of that? Does it mean a week or a month?

It may happen, arising out of an auditor's report or other circumstances, that a special audit may be necessary. It might not be possible to hold the inquiry within a week: it may take some longer period of time; but on available delay will occur.

Amendment agreed to.
Amendments Nos. 1 and 2 reported and agreed to.
