Vol. 93 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Beet Haulage and Loading Facilities.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will urge the Great Southern Railways to erect a loading bank to the railway line which passes through the village of Cloneygowan, County Offaly, in order that it may be convenient for beet haulage and serve the people of the area who have no convenient railway station to the village.

I have been informed that the proposal referred to in the question was fully considered by the Great Southern Railways Company in August of last year on the representations of Deputy Patrick Gorry and that it was decided that it had not sufficient merit to justify proceeding with it in present circumstances. The answer to the Deputy's question is, therefore, in the negative.

Deputy Gorry got his lift, in any case.

Thanks to Deputy Flanagan.

Is it not possible for the Department of Industry and Commerce to review the position now? I think it was in 1941 that the Deputy to whom the Parliamentary Secretary refers made representations.

The position was reviewed as late as last August.

On whose representations?

My information is that it was on the representations of Deputy Gorry.

I have made representations.
