Vol. 94 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Street Crossings.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state why the Cork City Manager has not arranged for fixed and marked street crossings to facilitate aged and infirm citizens to cross streets in comparative safety.

I am aware that the city manager invited tenders in 1940 for the supply of the necessary signs and markings. The prices quoted in 1940 were regarded as excessive, and none of the tenders received was acceptable. When quotations were again sought in 1941, no tender was received. No further action is proposed at present. It is unlikely that the necessary materials will be obtainable until after the emergency.
