Vol. 94 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pigs and Bacon Commission.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state in relation to the Pigs and Bacon Commission (a) how the commission is nominated; (b) the number of its members; (c) the qualifications on which selection of members was made; (d) the number representing pig producers' interests; (e) the number representing owner interests; (f) the number representing consumers' interests; (g) the number of civil servants; and (h) the remuneration paid to members.

The Pigs and Bacon Commission consists of a chairman and ordinary members, all of whom are appointed by me in accordance with the provisions of Part II of the Pigs and Bacon (Amendment) Act, 1939. While pig producers, curers and consumers are not represented as such on the commission, the latter has due regard to their various interests. The two ordinary members of the commission are civil servants. The remuneration of the chairman is £1,000 per annum and each of the ordinary members receives an allowance of £100 per annum from the funds of the commission.
