Vol. 94 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Threshing Machines.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state (a) the number of threshing sets in good condition in each county, distinguishing between tractor-driven and steamdriven; (b) the present cereal acreage per set in each county; (c) what steps he has taken to ensure that such machines are in efficient condition.

As regards (a) of the Deputy's question, I am giving, in the form of a tabular statement which will be published in the Official Report, particulars of portable threshing mills in respect of which licences have been issued.

As to (b), particulars are not yet available of the acreage under cereals in the present year.

As regards (c), the licences issued to owners of portable threshing mills under the Emergency Powers (Cereals) Order, 1943, are conditional on the mills being maintained in proper working condition. A memorandum giving detailed information regarding the points to be attended to in overhauling their machines was prepared and sent to threshing mill owners. Threshing mills working for hire in the coming season will be inspected with a view to ensuring that they are being properly operated.

The following are the particulars of the licensed portable threshing mills:—
