Vol. 94 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Electricity Consumers' Council.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will consider introducing legislation setting up a consumers' council representative of industrial, domestic and rural consumers, to the Electricity Supply Board on the same lines as is provided for in the Transport Bill.

It is not proposed to introduce legislation on the lines suggested by the Deputy.

The Minister is of course aware that the executive officers of the Electricity Supply Board are also the policy officers and apart from the Minister having some interest in protecting the public generally, if some such arrangement as I suggest is not recommended, I am afraid the present management of the board will make a tuaplais of the whole situation.
