Vol. 94 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Hospital Appointment.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether the salary scale proposed for the resident medical officer of St. Clare's Hospital, Dublin, has been fixed with his sanction, and, if so, whether the scale so fixed is sufficiently attractive to secure the services of a person properly qualified to undertake a position of such responsibility, especially as the hospital is to specialise in the treatment of a disease about which no great amount of knowledge has yet been accumulated by the medical profession.

The reply to the first portion of the Deputy's question is in the affirmative. The fixing of the remuneration in this case is a matter primarily for the local authority concerned and the remuneration fixed is considered adequate for the post to be filled. The services of an experienced consultant will be available for the resident medical officer in any case of doubt or difficulty.
