Vol. 94 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supervisors of Cow Testing Associations.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that grave dissatisfaction exists amongst he supervisors of cow testing associations, especially those with long and efficient service, because they have got no emergency bonus; that all other efforts made by them to supplement their present inadequate salaries—such as increasing the membership of their respective associations—have resulted in failure; whether it is his intention to offer more attractive conditions of pay and employment to those supervisors in the future; and if he will consider the desirability of re-introducing a course of lectures for supervisors of cow testing associations at University College, Cork, as has been done on former occasions.

As I have pointed out in reply to a question by the Deputy on the 14th March last, supervisors of cow testing associations are not employees of my Department but of the associations. The introduction of provisions which would enable associations to effect an improvement in the remuneration of supervisors is at present under consideration. I propose to arrange for the resumption at the earliest opportunity of courses of lectures for these supervisors.
