Vol. 94 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Seception of Refugees or Wounded.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he will state what representations, if any, have been made by other Governments that refugees or wounded from war zones should be received in this State, and if he will indicate the nature of the proposals and the extent to which they have been agreed to.

No Government representations for the reception of wounded in this country have been made. A proposal for the reception here of refugee children from Europe was made and was accepted; I cannot however, at this stage give further information.

I would much prefer to hear the Taoiseach giving the answer that he has given than telling this House a lie. I think any Deputy of Dáil Eireann——

If the Deputy has a supplementary question he may put it, but he may not make a speech.

What did the Deputy mean by saying I told a lie?

I think Dáil Eireann is entitled to the information asked for in this question.

The Deputy said I was telling you a lie.

What I said was that I would much prefer to hear the Taoiseach giving the reply he has given rather than hear him telling a lie.

Suggesting, therefore, that I have told you a lie.

The Chair is not going to allow that?

I think the Deputy should withdraw the remark.

I think we are entitled to the information.

The Deputy must withdraw the suggestion that on this or any other occasion the Taoiseach would mislead the House by a lie.

I withdraw the expression "a lie." At the same time——

There is to be no qualification. It must be unreservedly withdrawn.
