Vol. 94 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mountmellick-Portlaoighise Railway Line.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is in a position to indicate the date of the reopening of the Mountmellick-Portlaoighise railway line, and if there is a likelihood that it will be open for the present grain season.

I am not in a position to state when the Mountmellick-Portlaoighise railway line will be reopened. I understand that the question of the possibility of operating specials for grain on this line if and when the volume of traffic warrants it is under consideration by the company.

Could the Minister arrange, by any means in his power, to speed up this matter, because I understand that it is most important that both the rail and road services should be reopened with the least possible delay, not alone from the point of view of grain but also of beet?
