Vol. 94 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Barrow Drainage Rates.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state what representations have been received in his Department from county councils or other bodies regarding postponement of collection of Barrow drainage rates, and the nature of the replies given in each case.

A resolution was received from the Kildare County Council suggesting the postponement of the collection of the River Barrow drainage rates until the Arterial Drainage Bill had been considered. The council were accordingly informed that the fact that a Bill under consideration by the Oireachtas may contain provisions as to drainage rates does not in any way relieve the council of its stautory obligation to collect such rates as are now legally due under the Barrow Drainage Acts, which are in full force. The council were further informed that in any event their resolution could not relieve the responsible officers of the council from the obligation of collecting the drainage rates due to the council and that the collection should accordingly be proceeded with.
