Vol. 94 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Curragh Camp Employees.

Mr. Corish (for Mr. Norton)

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the number of employees on the Curragh Camp whose services have been terminated since the 1st January, 1944, and the general reasons for the termination of their services.

The number of civilian employees at the Curragh Camp whose services have been terminated since the 1st January, 1944, is 77. Owing to the difficulty experienced in obtaining materials for building and maintenance purposes there was not sufficient employment on hands to justify the retention of a large number of these employees. Suitable alternative work was not available. Other reasons which led to termination of service in a lesser number of cases included such grounds as unsatisfactory performance of duty, dishonesty and resignation at own request.
