Vol. 94 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Deductions from I.R.A. Pensions.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that a great hardship is being inflicted on council workers, municipal workers and civil servants on small pay on account of deductions from their I.R.A. pensions; and if he is prepared to amend the Pensions Acts so that no deduction will be made from any class of worker in respect of his pension, whose wages from the local authority or State does not exceed £400 per annum.

I am aware that deductions are being made from the military service pensions awarded to the persons referred to in the Deputy's question, but I am not aware that great hardship is being inflicted thereby. The question of deductions under the Military Service Pensions Acts has been for some time under consideration.

Would the Minister say if it is intended to introduce amending legislation?

I can only say that the matter is under consideration.
