Vol. 94 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rents in Howth.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that, since the Howth area was included in the Dublin Corporation, the rents of houses in Howth have been raised from 3/5 to 6/11 in some cases and from 3/5 to 9/2 in other cases, both in the case of new tenants and in cases where the tenants' names were being changed as between relatives; and if he is prepared to refuse sanction to the making of increases of this nature by the Dublin Corporation.

I understand there have been four cases of re-lettings in Howth since the district became merged in Dublin County Borough. None of the four houses which were re-let is subsidisable under the Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1932, and accordingly the rent to be charged is a matter for the local authority.
