Vol. 94 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Erection of Pumps in Laoighis-Offaly.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will sanction the proposals from the County Manager for Leix and Offaly to raise money for the erection of several public pumps in the counties mentioned, as there is a general demand from the ratepayers that the pumps approved of by the county councils concerned be erected with least possible delay.

Proposals for the raising of loans to defray the cost of the erection of pumps in the counties of Laoighis and Offaly have been received.

In the case of Laoighis County Council application was received on the 28th January last for a loan of £1,600 to provide 14 pumps in the county health district. On examination it was considered that the specification furnished required to be modified in certain respects, and the specification was returned to the local authority for amendment accordingly, together with a request for the submission of a formal application for sanction to the raising of the necessary loan.

In the case of Offaly County an application for sanction to the raising of a loan of £8,500 to provide 37 pumps in the county health district was received on the 11th August, 1944. The necessity for carrying out the full programme of the works proposed has not been fully established and the matter has been referred to the local authority for further consideration.
