Vol. 94 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old Age Pensioners' Tea and Butter Ration.

asked the Minister for Supplies if, in view of the fact that the man diet of old age pensioners consists of bread, butter and tea, he is prepared to grant them an additional ration of tea and butter.

I regret that the limited supplies of tea and butter available would not permit of the granting of additional rations of those commodities to old age pensioners. In urban areas such pensioners are entitled to an allowance of butter under the Food Voucher Scheme in addition to their ordinary domestic ration.

Could not the regulations applying, in urban areas, to old age pensioners be extended to old age pensioners living in rural areas? Could not these additional allowances be granted to old age pensioners, no matter where they live?

No; it would not be practicable to do so.
