Vol. 94 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Turf Transport in Kerry.

Mr. Crowley

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is aware that over 90 per cent. of the turf cut this season in East and South East Kerry by private producers who, in many cases, had to borrow money in banks to pay wages, is still unsold on account of poor transport facilities; and if he will now endeavour to have provided reasonable waggon accommodation at the railway stations or reasonable lorry transport service to the markets.

I am not aware that over 90 per cent. of the turf cut this season in East and South-East Kerry by private producers is still unsold on account of poor transport facilities. The provision for turf transport in the area is not as satisfactory as I would like, but all available transport is being utilised to the best general advantage and the matter is receiving constant attention.
