Vol. 94 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hydro-Electric Development in South Kerry.

Mr. Crowley

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, in view of the favourable opinion expressed by some engineers on the possibilities of hydro-electric development in the following areas in South Kerry: (a) the upper reaches of the Blackwater; (b) the Roughty River, Kenmare; (c) the Flesk River and lakes adjoining; (d) the Clonee River, Kenmare, and lakes adjoining, and (e) the Caragh River and lakes, he will ask for detailed surveys and reports for these areas.

The investigation of the possibilities of the hydro-electric development of rivers is a duty of the Electricity Supply Board, who have already been asked to investigate the possibilities of rivers in the areas to which the Deputy refers, as well as in other areas. These investigations are proceeding as rapidly as possible.
